Sumeet Bansal and Chris Featherstone Go Solid State Driving!

Richard and Greg talk to Sumeet Bansal and Chris Featherstone about using solid state drives in the enterprise. SSDs have penetrated deeply into the workstation and laptop market, but are they robust enough to handle enterprise class workloads? Sumeet and Chris also focus on whether the traditional hard drive interfaces of SAS and SATA make sense for the ultra-low latency performance of SSDs.

 

As principal solutions architect for Fusion-io, Sumeet Bansal is responsible for designing architectural solutions that use Fusion-io product lines as core technology to deliver unprecedented levels of scalability, performance and simplicity. Sumeet brings more than 11 years IT and database-infrastructure experience to the position. Prior to joining Fusion-io, Sumeet served as vice-president of information technology at Wine.com, the Internet retailer. There, he spearheaded implementation of a new storage technology that allows the company's databases to respond up to 10 times faster. His migration strategy for company hardware and hosting platforms saved Wine.com hundreds of thousands of dollars. Sumeet also oversaw the development of customized financial software to maintain the company's high transaction volume and supervised the company's disaster recovery strategy. Sumeet started his career in the US by teaching Oracle database classes at a private institution.

Currently Chris is heavily involved on product marketing team focused on the next generation of software products offered by Fusion-io. Prior to the product marketing team, Chris was focused on creating technology solutions centered on Fusion-io's record breaking technology. Of which a majority was focused on many of the Microsoft applications and technology stack. Before Fusion-io Chris spend 10+ Years at Microsoft focused on Microsoft's Application Platform stack as a Field Architect, System Engineer, Technology Specialist, and Field Product manager, across many of the industry verticals. Chris has spoken at many of the Microsoft events across the world, including Teched, PDC, MEC, MGB, and DevDays. Chris has also co-authored a book titled Commerce Server 2000 (Wrox press). Before his tiem at Microsoft Chris was a Developer Consultant at Deloitte and Touche where he was fortunate enough to work on many ecommerce web applications for HP. Currently Chris is on the Information Systems Advisory Board Member for Brigham Young University and lives in Salt Lake City.
