Hiring in 2026 with Suzi Edwards-Alexander

About Show #1026

How can you hire and get hired in 2026? While at NDC London, Richard chatted with Suzi Edwards-Alexander about her experiences recruiting technology folks into companies. Suzi talks about developing interview practices that actually reflect the job, rather than examining esoteric knowledge or certifications - it's possible to have an interviewing experience that is actually enjoyable! The conversation dives into the power imbalance between employers and employees and how to resist being seen as lesser for not being employed. Work should be a mutually beneficial experience - we have to do better!

Suzi Edwards-Alexander founded Appartenir to help organisations hire better, and along the way she started to coach people around their job search. Appartenir, translated from French, means to belong. Belonging is her special interest and she spends a lot of time thinking about how recruitment and belonging fit together. Suzi is a people-first provocateur with 30 years in tech. She led global recruitment for global software consulting firm Thoughtworks - once described as the most selective hiring process in the world - as well as establishing operations in more than eight countries and helping shape the Tech Radar. Now she helps startups and scale-ups build teams where belonging and psychological safety are the baseline, not just buzzwords. Suzi loves helping companies get to grips with values-driven hiring, radically better interviewing, and recruitment processes that don't make people scream. She also really loves coaching as it allows her to be a gamekeeper turned poacher, helping people understand the mechanics of hiring and get into a different headspace to have a more productive job search. Her mission? To help people interview with confidence, put humanity at the heart of hiring and get people out of their comfort zones and into the wild spaces of North Wales.
