Richard and Greg talk to Doug Splinter from avtex about Microsoft Lync. Lync is the new name and new version of Office Communications Server. Lync, like OCS before it, pulls together telephone, instant messaging, email and collaboration into a common interface and address book. Doug Splinter is a Vice President, Technology Strategy at Avtex. In that capacity, Doug works to develop and evangelize products solutions around unified communications and collaboration systems, presents regularly at conferences/seminars on unified communications, and works with enterprise clients on communications solution architecture. Before the acquisition of Convergent by Avtex in November 2010, Doug was the CTO at Convergent, a Microsoft Unified Communications Voice partner, where he built the Microsoft Unified Communications practice and custom software development group. Prior to his work with Convergent, Doug was employed as an IT Director for a national professional services firm, a Technical Strategist for Novell, and also worked as a System Architect for DataSource Connecting Point, where he specialized in messaging, document management and collaboration solutions.
