Richard and Greg talk to Iain McDonald, General Manager for Windows Server while at Tech Ed EMEA 2008 IT Pro in Barcelona. Iain gives us a look into what's coming up for Windows Server 2008 R2.

 

Iain McDonald has worked for Microsoft for 17 years; currently he is General Manager of the Windows Server group. In this role he owns end to end delivery, architecture, & vision of future releases of Windows Server. Prior to this role he was Director of Program Management for Windows Server Prior to moving to Windows Server in 2003, he was Project Director Windows Server 2003, Windows XP & was Project Manager for Windows 2000. In these role his team owned day to day operations of the development group, & project schedule. A native of Australia, he started working for Microsoft's Australian Subsidiary in 1991. After moving to the US in 1992, he spent 6 years in the Exchange Server development team where he worked on the first three versions of that product. Over his time in Exchange, his responsibilities moved from the connectivity components, to being the whipping boy for the initial the deployment in Microsoft, then to being the Project Manager for the 5.0 & 5.5 releases. After the release of Exchange 5.5 he became a member of the Outlook Web Access development team for their redesign which became the first and the model for what are now AJAX applications. Prior to Microsoft, he frittered away his 20s as a good for nothing Professional Musician. He lives in Seattle with his Wife Melanie & 10 month old twin girls.
